When it comes to easy tents to set up, it's difficult to beat the ease and speed of the pop up tent. These tents come in a number of different designs and sizes, each having its pros and cons, and we will look at these tents in more detail here.
The easiest of the pop up tents to set up is the single-skinned (single-walled) design. With this type of tent it's as easy as taking the tent out of its carry bag and allowing it to spring open, then pegging it down where you want to camp. It's then ready for use. Double-skinned (double-walled) pop up tents need a little more pegging out due to the outer flysheet.
The single-skinned tents are sometimes affected by condensation inside the tent than the double-skinned tents, and this can cause sleeping bags and clothes to become wet from the condensation. They are usually slightly quicker to erect than the double-skinned types though.
Double-skinned types have a little more insulation from the cold due to the flysheet, and are often warmer as a consequence. Also, the inner tents on this design are usually breathable, so are less prone to condensation.
Pop up tents can be unsuitable for very windy conditions, due to their flexibility. Some are fitted with guy ropes and this can help greatly in making the tent more wind resistant and stable.
